As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a penchant for appreciating diverse storytelling, I am thoroughly enthused by the latest news about Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin MacDonald joining forces with Cinetic Media. His remarkable journey spanning both documentaries and narrative features showcases his versatility as an artist, making him a truly captivating figure in the world of cinema.
Cinetic Media has signed Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin MacDonald for management.
McDonald received an Academy Award for Best Documentary for “One Day in September,” a film that examines the tragic murder of 11 Israeli athletes during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. In another instance, McDonald’s dramatic feature, “The Last King of Scotland,” garnered the Oscar for Best Actor, which went to Forest Whitaker for his gripping portrayal of Idi Amin.
McDonald is set to appear at the Venice Film Festival, where he’ll unveil “One to One: John & Yoko,” a documentary exploring the intimate relationship of the renowned music legends. His latest work, “Klitschko: More Than a Fight,” detailing the life journey of boxing champion turned Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko, was the opening film at the 2024 Sheffield DocFest. McDonald’s previous works in non-fiction include “Marley,” a portrayal of reggae icon Bob Marley, “Whitney,” an analysis of pop icon Whitney Houston, and “High & Low — John Galliano,” which follows the tumultuous career of the controversial fashion designer John Galliano.
In his latest endeavor, he directed the political thriller “The Mauritanian,” featuring Benedict Cumberbatch, Jodie Foster, and Tahar Rahim. His production credits extend to movies like Asif Kapadia’s “Senna,” Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi’s “The Rescue” and Ben Nicholas and David Tryhorn’s “Pele.” McDonald collaborates with Plan B in a partnership to co-create and co-produce non-fiction films and series.
“John Sloss, Cinetic’s principal, stated that Kevin’s talent for seamlessly navigating between documentary and scripted storytelling, as well as his experience in both directing and producing, makes him an ideal candidate for our cross-disciplinary management project. In essence, we are delighted to be working with him.”
Cinetic Media manages the careers of various filmmakers such as Richard Linklater, David Gordon Green, Todd Haynes, Chris Smith, Aaron Schimberg, Vanessa McDonnell, Babak Jalali, Christine Vachon from Killer Films, World of Wonder, Lana Wilson, Betsy West and Julie Cohen, Yance Ford, Matthew Heineman, and Pete Nicks.
Beyond producing and distributing content, this management and media company also offers various additional services. These include selling content, providing financing, marketing, publicity, and corporate consultation. The latter aspect primarily caters to the needs of media companies, brands, investors, and publishers by representing and advising them on their entertainment strategies as they develop and implement them.
MacDonald will continue to be represented by WME and United Agents.
