Oscar Nuñez Reprising ‘The Office’ Role in Peacock’s Follow-Up Series

According to EbMaster, Oscar Nunez is set to reprise his role as Oscar Martinez in the sequel series of “The Office” on Peacock.

According to reports, Nunez won’t be the main protagonist in the forthcoming “The Office”-inspired mockumentary sitcom. Instead, it’s an ensemble series, featuring a group of characters. However, Nunez is included in the show’s cast and has been part of the script since its conception.

No additional information has been disclosed yet about Oscar’s character or plot development within the upcoming series that Greg Daniels is developing and overseeing along with Michael Korman, known for his work on “Nathan For You.

Currently, Nunez is thought to be the only “Office” cast member confirmed for the upcoming series (currently known as the “Daniels/Korman Project”). However, since it’s set in the universe of “The Office,” there’s a possibility that characters from the original show could make an appearance.

Neither Universal TV nor Nunez’s representatives chose to provide comments. People familiar with the production have mentioned that in the past, Daniels has expressed that he felt he concluded most of the characters’ stories satisfactorily, but if there was one character he’d like to re-examine, it would be Oscar. It appears that producers were trying to keep Nunez’s potential involvement a secret, but the news was accidentally leaked on Wednesday by The Insider newsletter.

The show, tentatively named “The Paper,” is set to explore the story of employees at a struggling Midwestern newspaper, who are striving to breathe life into it with the help of volunteer journalists. This production will be captured by the same documentary team that famously documented the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin in “The Office,” potentially providing an explanation for how a character like Oscar ends up in this fresh environment.

The upcoming series is created by Daniels, renowned for his work on “The Office” in America, along with Koman. Previously announced actors for the show include Domhnall Gleeson, known for “Star Wars,” Sabrina Impacciatore from “The White Lotus,” Chelsea Frei of “Poker Face,” Melvin Gregg of “Snowfall,” Gbemisola Ikumelo from “Black Ops,” Alex Edelman, recognized for “Just For Us,” Ramona Young from “Never Have I Ever,” and Tim Key, who has been in “The Witchfinder.

Notable appearances are made by Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts in this production.

Character details have been kept under wraps. The series is expected to begin production in July.

Daniels and Koman, along with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (the creators of the original British version), and also Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas, hold the role as executive producers. The production company is Universal Television, which falls under the umbrella of Universal Studio Group.

In January 2024, Daniels set up a writers’ studio to start developing the revamped version of “The Office.” Originally airing from 2005 to 2013 and focusing on the employees at a Pennsylvania paper company branch, it was headlined by Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Ed Helms, Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak, and several others, including Nuñez. The show gained even more fame in its post-broadcast life, ranking as one of the biggest sensations on streaming television.

Besides “Lucky Hank,” “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” “Mr. Iglesias,” “People of Earth,” Nuñez is also known for movies like “The Proposal,” “Mascots” and “The Lost City.” Additionally, he frequently appears as a spokesperson for State Farm.
