Oscar Isaac to Play Conman Juan Carlos Guzmán in ‘Stowaway’ Series for Apple TV+ (EXCLUSIVE)

In “Stowaway,” Oscar Isaac will take on dual roles – executively producing and portraying Juan Carlos Guzmán, a globally acclaimed master of deceit.

Apple TV+ secured the rights to the developing project in a highly contested scenario. Steven Levenson will be responsible for creating the series, which is set against a dazzling backdrop of affluence and luxury, with the pilot episode being helmed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.

The film ‘Stowaway’ focuses on Guzmán, who, in the year 1993, was found to have hidden aboard a cargo plane within its wheel well, close to being frozen solid upon landing in Miami. He presented himself as a 13-year-old orphan from Colombia, driven by desperation to seek a better life in America. However, it was later revealed that Guzmán was actually 17 years old and had an aunt living in Miami, while his mother remained alive and concerned for him back in Bogota.

As the logline suggests, “He didn’t tell his final lie or even the most absurd one there.

For the following two decades, Guzmán would become globally recognized as the world’s most accomplished swindler. As portrayed in the logline, he traversed the globe under various disguises, swindling millions from wealthy patrons residing at the world’s elite hotels. Despite his ability to convincingly impersonate his victims, Juan was persistently elusive – not just from Scotland Yard, the Las Vegas Police Department, or Interpol, but also from a past that he appeared powerless to shake off.

Isaac is taking on the role of executive producer for this project through his production company, Mad Gene Media. He’ll be joined by Elvira Lind and Gena Konstantinakos in this capacity. Additionally, Drew Comins (representing Creative Engine), Matthew Bremner (a journalist), Levenson, and Gomez-Rejon are also serving as executive producers. Fifth Season is the studio involved in the project.

In a notable turn of events, Mad Gene’s latest production represents its second significant sale, preceded by the highly anticipated drama series “Bananas,” which features Isaac and Ana de Armas in lead roles and is directed by David O. Russell. This high-profile project was secured by Apple towards the end of last year.
