A week past, the Original War marked its 24th anniversary since its debut. Devoted fans of this timeless RTS game continue to receive new content regularly, thanks to the consistently updated major mod known as Sand of Siberia. We’re highlighting this project because it has undergone considerable alterations recently.
This month, our mod has undergone four significant upgrades, namely versions 1.6.8, 1.6.9, 1.6.10, and 1.6.11, the most recent of which was just rolled out a short while ago. These updates have introduced numerous modifications:
- A total of eight new maps for PvP matches were added.
- A new, significantly improved AI was introduced for skirmish mode.
- Gameplay balance was refined.
- The multiplayer interface was improved, including an option to create custom avatars.
- Numerous bug fixes were also included.
The objective of “Sand of Siberia” is to refine and broaden the scope of “Original War”. This endeavor upgrades the graphics (even supporting high widescreen resolutions), enhances AI, and rectifies numerous bugs. Additionally, it significantly enriches the game’s content—this includes additional Player versus Player maps, an extra campaign, plus new weapons, animations, and sound effects.
At first, the mod featured two fresh campaigns – one designed for the Ares faction and another for Russia. Unfortunately, the Russia campaign had to be taken out because of various technical glitches. The updated version of this campaign will be introduced in version 1.7 of the mod.
