Next month marks the 25th anniversary of Original War. That’s a long time in the world of video games, but the strategy game still has a dedicated fanbase. For years, these fans have been working on an amazing mod called Sand of Siberia, and a new version has just been released.
The update has been labeled version 1.6.26.
- Most importantly, the mod has gained six new maps for multiplayer or skirmish battles against AI. Two of them are refreshed versions of older fan-made battlefields, while four are completely new.
- The Wild Marshes map has received its own skill progression tree.
- The campaign for the Ares faction has also been improved.
- Support for Tournament Mode has been added.
- A random map selection option has appeared in the multiplayer lobby.
- Naturally, the update also includes technical bug fixes and balance improvements.
Sand of Siberia aims to significantly improve the classic game Original War and add a lot more content. The team has upgraded the graphics to support modern, high-resolution widescreen displays, made the AI smarter, and fixed many bugs. They’ve also added tons of new maps and units, along with a brand new story campaign – and another one is coming in version 1.7.
