Original Cast Shakeup: Who’s Leaving Law & Order Organized Crime?

Episode 3 of bids farewell to one of its original cast members.

In the third episode of Law & Order: Organized Crime’s fifth season, titled “Paranza Dei Bambini,” Ainsley Seiger’s character, Detective Jet Slootmaekers, bid farewell. Since its debut in 2021, Seiger has been bringing Slootmaekers to life on this spinoff. The crime drama kicked off the new season with a thrilling start on April 17th, following the premiere of Episode 2, “Dante’s Inferno.

Following an intensely distressing covert operation in the last episode, where Slootmaeker suffered an attack while infiltrating a secret truckers gathering, we learned in the following episode that she would be departing from the Organized Crime Control Bureau. In episode 3, Detective Bobby Reyes, portrayed by Rick Gonzalez, would explain to Stabler (Christopher Meloni) why Jet had been absent from work recently. He disclosed, “We parted ways a few weeks back. We haven’t spoken since then. That trucker serial case really took a toll on her.” It seems that Jet may have received an offer from the FBI, and Sergeant Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt) assures her that it’s acceptable if she decides to follow a different career path.

How Much is Left of The Original Cast?

Fans might feel disheartened by Seiger’s exit, given she’s been part of the show since its inception. Detective Slootmaekers, initially portrayed as a hacker helping the NYPD collect information and locate individuals, was introduced in the first season. It’s not unprecedented for a main character to depart from this series. Currently, only two original cast members remain: Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler and Truitt as Sergeant Ayanna Bell. Gonzalez’s character, Detective Bobby Reyes, joined the team during Season 3.

In Season 5, Randall Stabler, Elliot’s brother portrayed by Dean Norris, will continue to appear. Each script brings out more of my favorite characters for me. I find him incredibly intriguing because he’s a successful real estate developer yet grapples with insecurity and lacks smoothness. I enjoy delving into the complexities of his character and his family’s history, which becomes increasingly captivating. So, we can expect to see more of this dynamic character for a few seasons, perhaps even making it the most compelling one.

You can stream “Law & Order: Organized Crime” every Thursday, as new episodes are made available on the streaming platform, Peacock.
