As a long-time fan of One Piece, I must say that the introduction of Saint Figarland Garling has certainly stirred up some interesting discussions among the community! The theory about him being Shanks’ father is intriguing, and the slight difference in their hair color doesn’t necessarily disprove it.
In the ongoing One Piece anime series, we’ve moved on to the Egghead Incident storyline with Episode 1120 introducing a powerful, enigmatic character. Yet, viewers are abuzz with discussions due to an unforeseen alteration in the character’s design.
In the One Piece anime, the flashback from the Reverie has concluded, and we’re now jumping into the battle between Garp and Aokiji in episode 1121. But there’s a bit of puzzlement among fans due to the sudden appearance of Saint Figarland Garling in episode 1120.
It’s said that he leads the Holy Knights, and there are whispers that he might be Shanks’ father. Due to their striking resemblance, many believe this theory to be almost undeniable. However, it’s worth noting that Shanks has fiery red hair while Garling has a slightly grayish-blonde hue instead.
Concerned fans question potential flaws in the design. Yet, given Garling’s advanced age, it’s hardly shocking that this color scheme was chosen. Additionally, a youthful version of Garling is briefly shown during the God Valley flashback, which should alleviate fan concerns by providing answers.

In the majority of instances, as people grow older, their red hair tends to turn blonde, not gray. Therefore, his blondeness doesn’t necessarily disprove a connection to Shanks; instead, it might suggest it more strongly.
A fourth person added, “His hair doesn’t resemble the tonal stick art of manga characters like Shanks. It wasn’t hard to tell that he didn’t have red hair; however, many seem to have misunderstood this.
Due to some viewers accusing Toei of incorrectly portraying Garling’s hair color, one fan clarifies, “It’s amusing that people think Toei altered the colors, but we never had a clear idea of Garling’s color scheme until now. I always assumed Garling didn’t have red hair because his hair wasn’t highlighted like Shanks’ was.
