In early June, People Can Fly studio announced a pause on two significant projects – Gemini and Bifrost, and also hinted at workforce reduction. At the time, we were unsure about the titles, but recent reports from ThumbWars suggest that one of these projects could potentially be Outriders 2.
Outriders 2 canceled
The information originates from an unidentified individual within the development team, who revealed that they discovered the game’s termination simultaneous with the global public. This came as quite a shock. It has been verified that the project initially referred to as Gemini was intended to be launched under the title Outriders 2, which, considering Square Enix was set to publish it as they did for the initial release, was somewhat anticipated.
As a gamer, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment when I hear that a game I was eagerly anticipating, which supposedly was almost complete, had to be scrapped by People Can Fly. The reasons behind this decision were circumstances that lay beyond the studio’s grasp, leaving us in the dark about the specifics. Hopefully, we’ll get more clarity soon.
Initially, the first Outriders game garnered a blend of opinions from gamers. Launched in 2021, it amassed over 45,000 reviews on Steam, with approximately 66% being positive. Surprisingly, some players expressed disappointment about the possible termination of the sequel, even though the original game wasn’t particularly outstanding. These players cherish their experiences with the initial release.
First one was fun to mindlessly grind with friends. Would have been cool to get a second one.
It’s unfortunate, but the game “Outriders” was enjoyable. It wasn’t exceptional, but it had potential for an even better follow-up.
I found the initial segment quite enjoyable, yet it didn’t stand out exceptionally. The announcement that there won’t be a sequel doesn’t come as a shock. Regardless, if they decide to launch it, I’d give it a go.

What about the Bifrost project?
Additionally, ThumbWars disclosed details about the second abandoned project, referred to as Bifrost. Originally conceived as an independent game-service unrelated to established franchises, it seemed that the concept failed to ignite significant excitement, even among members of Playground Games and Codemasters.
The product was reportedly labeled as a “typical item imitating popular trends, lacking uniqueness and innovation.” If this was indeed true, it might have been beneficial for the project to be terminated prior to its release.
