As a seasoned gamer with decades of pixel-pushing under my belt, I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia as Nintendo continues to expand their Switch Online library. The addition of Tetris for NES is like a sweet, square-shaped icing on the cake!
Nintendo is steadily expanding its Switch Online library of games, piece by piece, and this time it’s adding the classic Tetris for the NES to their subscription service starting from December 12.
Later this month, it was officially confirmed on the Nintendo of America account that Tetris for NES will be available for Switch Online members. Remarkably, this edition of the timeless puzzle game is also incorporated in the collection known as Tetris Forever, which encompasses not only Tetris but also Tetris Battle Gaiden and Super Bombliss. Essentially, it appears that Tetris enthusiasts are in for a treat with this compilation.

Over the past couple of months, there’s been a continuous flow of new games added to Nintendo Switch Online. For example, last week, three Sega Genesis titles became available on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, including ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron. It’s worth noting that this particular game is among several that Sega is removing from Steam later this month.
Last month, Donkey Kong Land for Game Boy dropped on Switch Online. The platforming title from Rare attempts to bring the side-scrolling gameplay of Donkey Kong Country on SNES to the less-powerful handheld system. Another Rare title also came to the subscription service in October with Banjo-Tooie.
Switch Online is the basic membership that costs $20 a year for individuals and includes access to NES, SNES, and Game Boy titles. Meanwhile, the premium Expansion Pack tier goes up to $50 annually for individuals to access Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64 catalogs, among other bonuses. Don’t forget that subscribing to either will allow you to play Tetris 99, too.
