One Of Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Worst Features Will Be Revamped July 29

The outdated trading system within the Pokémon TCG Pocket app is set for a major revamp. You’ll receive an in-app notification on July 29 announcing that changes are being made to improve the system.

In January, trading – a much-desired feature – was incorporated into the free mobile card game, but it didn’t take players long to spot several issues with the new system. The addition of a unique currency called Trade Tokens was one aspect, while the numerous limitations on tradeable cards and trading partners were another.

Following the implementation of trading, The Pokemon Company admitted they had overshot their target. In a release, they explained that the game’s strict trading system was designed to deter bot abuse and other unauthorized activities across multiple accounts. However, it was found to be limiting for players, preventing them from enjoying the feature as originally intended. They have pledged to investigate larger modifications, but in the interim, will provide additional methods to amass Trade Tokens through special events.

Starting July 29, some long-standing worries of mine as a gamer will finally find resolution. The game is getting rid of that special trading currency and we won’t need extra cards anymore just to swap them out. Instead, I’ll be using my existing Shinedust from the Pokemon TCG Pocket for trades. Plus, a fresh wishlist feature will make it a breeze to show what cards I’m interested in swapping!

In order to reflect Shinedust’s updated function (previously utilized for aesthetic enhancements), the Shinedust gained from duplicate cards will now be doubled. Furthermore, players will have the option to swap their existing Trade Tokens for other forms of currency, such as Shinedust or hourglasses used for opening card packs.

Previously, The Pokemon Company had announced that an update for trading improvements would arrive by the close of Autumn 2025. Therefore, its imminent arrival is a delightful surprise. Just recently, on June 26, the Pokemon TCG Pocket’s new expansion, Eevee Grove, debuted, introducing 100 new cards to the game along with various Eevee-themed aesthetic enhancements. The game remains a favorite among many, having reached over 100 million downloads as early as February.

On July 22, we’ll be sharing updates about Pokemon TCG Pocket and various other Pokemon games during the Pokemon Presents live broadcast.
