One Metaphor ReFantazio Fan Can Win a Royal Title In This Sega Competition

As a seasoned gamer with a rich history of diving headfirst into fantastical realms and immersive narratives, I must say that the prospect of becoming a royal member of Sealand, the world’s smallest–and unrecognized–sovereign state, is nothing short of exhilarating. The fusion of my two passions, gaming and history, in this unique competition is an opportunity I can scarcely contain my excitement for.

Prior to the launch of Metaphor ReFantazio on October 11, Sega has revealed that it’s offering one lucky UK resident an exclusive opportunity: they could be made a royal member of the world’s tiniest and unacknowledged sovereign state! The fortunate winner will receive the prestigious title of “Hand to the Sovereign Prince of Sealand” and will also be treated to a boat journey to visit this micro-nation.

To join, individuals residing in the United Kingdom are required to submit a video explaining why they should be granted nobility. Coincidentally, this aligns with the main storyline of Metaphor ReFantazio, where players compete to earn the love and recognition of the people, aiming to be declared the next monarch of a mystical kingdom.

To mark the debut of Metaphor: ReFantazio, we’re offering you the exciting opportunity to join the Noble Family within Sealand’s government! Show us why you deserve this prestigious title by creating a video and tagging @Atlus_West and @SEGA. Remember to use #SealandNobility when applying. Good luck!

If you’re not aware, Sealand boasts an intriguing past. Constructed during World War II as HM Fort Roughs, it was deactivated post-war and later claimed by pirate radio broadcasters. In 1967, Paddy Roy Bates took control, planning to establish his own pirate radio station. He subsequently declared the independence of Roughs Tower and founded the Principality of Sealand.

Despite no formal recognition by any government, Sealand asserts that it was unofficially recognized by the UK and Germany through a court ruling and diplomatic interaction. Although Bates, its founder, passed away in 2012, the principality continues to be governed by his family and associates. For those intrigued by Sealand’s history, numerous documentaries provide insights into its establishment and various attempts to seize control over the offshore platform.

Prince Liam Bates made a statement in a press release, sharing that when his grandfather started Sealand in the 1960s, one of the initial acts was to grant my grandmother the title of Princess Joan. Since then, we’ve created numerous noble titles, but never a Hand to the Prince. This partnership with Sega and Atlus for creating an exclusive game is our first step into the world of video games, and it’s something future Sealand Royals will be proud to remember.

In simple terms, ReFantazio is the second game of this year to earn a perfect 10/10 rating on TopMob, thanks to its refined turn-based gameplay, creative visuals, and an engaging narrative filled with unexpected twists, all from Atlus’ fresh intellectual property.

In Jessica Cogswell’s review for TopMob, she metaphorically describes ReFantazio as a game that blends Atlus’ talent for creating emotionally intense RPGs with unexpected plot developments, an adventurous spirit, and dreamlike idealism to produce one of its most remarkable games.
