One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest Celebrates 50th Anniversary With 4K Steelbook Edition

Considered one of the greatest films of the 20th century, *One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest* is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a new 4K Blu-ray release. A limited edition version, featuring a collectible steelbook case, is available for preorder on Amazon for $30 (originally $35) and includes a digital copy. A standard Blu-ray edition is also available for preorder at Walmart for $25.

The film *One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest* is adapted from Ken Kesey’s acclaimed 1962 novel, frequently considered one of the greatest works of fiction from the 20th century. The movie itself was a critical and commercial success, earning nine Academy Award nominations and winning five, including Best Actor for Jack Nicholson and Best Picture.

Jack Nicholson’s performance as Randle McMurphy is considered one of his best. McMurphy, a repeat offender, manages to avoid work on a farm by pretending to be mentally ill and is sent to a psychiatric hospital instead. There, he clashes with Nurse Ratched, played by Louise Fletcher, a controlling nurse who uses fear and intimidation to manage her patients. Nicholson’s character is a lively contrast to the cold and detached Ratched, and his rebellious spirit begins to inspire the other patients. The film also stars a talented supporting cast, including Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, Will Sampson, Sydney Lassick, and William Redfield.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey

The film *One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest* is based on Ken Kesey’s novel of the same name. While the movie stays largely true to the book, a key change is the storytelling perspective. The film is told through the eyes of Chief Bromden, allowing audiences a deeper understanding of his experiences and making him the central figure.

Throughout the film, we also see the power struggle between McMurphy and Nurse Ratched. While the movie takes some liberties with the original story, including a different conclusion, it still captures the main themes and ideas of the book.
