⚠️ WARNING: This discussion includes spoilers about “About Last Night,” Episode 5, Season 16 of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” The episode is now available for streaming on Peacock starting from April 7.
During the latest episode of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” on Sunday night, an event that bloggers had been predicting since before March 9, when Season 16 began, finally unfolded. In this instance, Kenya Moore, a long-standing star of the Bravo series, found herself in hot water for publicly and maliciously displaying explicit images of her castmate Brit Eady on poster boards. This could potentially mean that we’ve seen the last of her on the show.
In Sunday night’s episode of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” an event that bloggers had anticipated since March 9, when Season 16 began, took place. Kenya Moore, a veteran cast member, got herself into trouble by displaying explicit images of her fellow castmate Brit Eady on poster boards in a provocative and malicious manner. This incident could lead to her departure from the show permanently.
In the episode titled “About Last Night”, Moore, who joined the series in its fifth season, hosted a grand opening event at Kenya Moore Hair Spa, her recently opened store. Rookie cast member Eady, who had been embroiled in a feud with Moore earlier in the season, showed up with a peace offering – a bouquet of flowers and a card. Prior to the party, Eady had expressed remorse to other cast members regarding her past behavior towards Moore. However, when Moore declined Eady’s apology, Eady departed. Subsequently, Moore took center stage to criticize Eady for attempting to exploit her for “a moment”, stating, “I’m going to treat you with disdain.
Later on, Moore revealed a poster board that an investigator had provided, with the title “Who Is This Ho?” at the top and pictures of Eady, slightly blurred, beneath it. She subsequently displayed another poster board, which, according to the women, depicted Eady engaging in oral sex. The other women expressed shock, claiming Moore had crossed a line, a claim Moore denied. Outside the spa, Porsha Williams, who has been acquainted with Moore for quite some time, said to the producers: “I just want to remove my microphone. You can pretend I wasn’t present at this event.
Towards the close of the show, a caption appeared saying: “Given Kenya’s actions, it was decided to stop recording with her for this season.
Essentially, Bravo decided to significantly reduce Bravo’s role in Season 16. You won’t find any solo scenes featuring her in the five episodes where she appeared, and the cameras didn’t visit her home during this season. Additionally, there were no confessional interviews with her, as these are typically filmed later in the season after it has been completed. Furthermore, unlike previous seasons, there were no Season 16 portraits of Bravo on the Bravo press site.
She was talking about guns, she said ‘I still got my pistol on me’. This girl is a problem. She needs to leave, she really does. I hope she does something to me so she can go!
As a dedicated fan of reality TV shows like “Real Housewives”, I’ve been keeping up with the latest news surrounding the departure of one of the cast members, Moore. For quite some time now, there have been rumors about an incident at her hair salon that was labeled as a “revenge porn” case, leading to her suspension. In response, on June 8, 2024, she took to Twitter to assert her innocence, stating, “I’ve never participated in revenge porn, I’ve never disseminated private images or footage of anyone, nor have I solicited such content to use for threatening or blackmailing purposes.”
According to close friends of Moore, she expressed worry for her personal safety during this time. By the end of June, Moore chose to part ways with the show, a decision that was reportedly mutual between her and Bravo, as per TMZ reports.
Later in November, on the “Tamron Hall” program, Moore expressed her reasons for taking action, stating that she didn’t feel secure with the producers and felt they dismissed her concerns as if she were acting like a stereotypical overly-controlling Black woman (often referred to as a “Black Karen”). Moore claimed she conducted investigations on Eady and uncovered explicit content of him engaging in a sexual act. “I decided, since no one else was going to stand up for me or ensure my safety, I would do it myself,” she said. “I would share with everyone what I discovered about him – it’s like presenting evidence.” She acknowledged that Bravo would likely censor the explicit content, as it was graphic in nature.
When Hall informed Moore that she seemed taken aback by the “intensity” of the act, Moore replied: “Looking back, things can appear differently. If I had another chance, I’d admit the pictures were offensive, and I probably made the situation worse.” She offered a vague apology without directly referring to Eady. “I regret my actions – I didn’t need to react that strongly,” she said. “However, when I felt in danger, I hadn’t been in such a predicament before, being a mother of a 6-year-old girl named Brooklyn.” (Moore seemed emotional as she mentioned her daughter.) “This is why I escalated the situation to a point where I was shielding not just myself, but my child too.
After a somewhat disappointing 15th season in 2023, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” underwent a semi-restart. Eventually, Bravo decided to bring back beloved cast member Williams, who was later joined by past stars Moore, Drew Sidora and Shamea Morton (who were upgraded from being friends and guests). Additionally, new faces Eady, Angela Oakley and Kelli Ferrell were introduced to the show.
As a seasoned movie critic, I found myself captivated by the reality TV journey of Vanessa Moore, once Miss USA, who joined the vibrant cast of “The Real Housewives” in 2012. Over the years, she’s earned the title of the ‘Shade Queen’, known for her signature twirl and catchphrase. However, beneath this entertaining facade, Moore has shown a brave willingness to lay bare her personal struggles on-screen, from her heartrending quest for reconciliation with her estranged mother to her turbulent, short-lived marriage (and ongoing divorce) with Marc Daly, the father of Brooklyn. Love her or loathe her, there’s no denying that she’s a captivating character, and her legion of supporters will undoubtedly continue to rally behind her.
Following Moore’s departure in Season 16, Phaedra Parks, who originally appeared on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” from Seasons 3-9, was reintroduced to the show. Parks was dismissed after Season 9 due to her spreading a rumor about her fellow castmate Kandi Burruss and her husband Todd Tucker, claiming they had intended to drug and sexually assault another cast member (Williams). If redemption and potential future employment are possible following such an incident, then it seems there might be a chance for Moore to return to “Real Housewives” in the future.
