Sony Classics has scheduled the release of the much-talked-about romantic comedy, “Oh, Hi!”, for this summer. Acquired from the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, this film is directed by Sophie Brooks and stars actors from popular series like “The Bear” and “The Perks of Being a Wall Flower”. The movie focuses on the young couple Iris (Gordon) and Isaac (Lerman), who embark on their first romantic weekend getaway together. However, things take an unexpected turn when Iris goes to great lengths to demonstrate their destiny as a couple, causing complications. Additionally, the dark romantic comedy includes actors such as Geraldine Viswanathan from “Thunderbolts” and John Reynolds from “Search Party”.
It’s been confirmed by Deadline that the film “Oh, Hi!” will have a limited theater release on July 25, 2025. After this initial release, it’ll be shown in more cinemas. Sony Pictures obtained the distribution rights for “Oh, Hi!” in March 2025, two months after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Back in March, when Sony Pictures Classics bought the distribution rights, writer and director Sophie Brooks stated:
I am absolutely ecstatic about our movie landing with Sony Pictures Classics! Ever since I was young, I’ve admired their films for their unique storytelling and refined quality. I can hardly contain my excitement for the day when our quirky film graces the screens of cinemas.
The response to the film “Oh, Hi!” at Sundance was generally favorable, earning a 72% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 18 reviews. Jourdain Searles of The Hollywood Reporter noted that while it has some narrative flaws, there are many appealing aspects to the film. He praised its witty script and talented cast, suggesting that it will draw in young fans and find an audience. Ross Bonaime of Collider, on the other hand, commented that the movie’s blend of love and Misery evokes a sense of nostalgia for the golden era of mumblecore. According to him, “Oh, Hi!” boasts a brilliant idea and an outstanding cast, which makes it stand out in both categories.
‘Oh, Hi!’ Is the Rom-Com To Watch Out for This Summer
Greetings! On the very same day that “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” hits theaters nationwide, “Oh, Hi!” will make a limited debut. To add to the excitement, “Happy Gilmore 2,” featuring Adam Sandler, will premiere on Netflix. Although “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is expected to dominate conversations and box office numbers, let’s hope that “Oh, Hi!” doesn’t get overlooked as it expands to additional theaters in the weeks ahead.
It’s quite traditional for a romantic comedy to first screen at Sundance and then hit theaters during the summer. For instance, “(500) Days of Summer” debuted at Sundance in 2009 before its July release, eventually becoming a box office sleeper hit. Similarly, “The Big Sick” premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2017 and had a June release, earning an impressive $42 million domestically and receiving rave reviews. We hope that the upcoming film “Oh, Hi!” with its talented cast and mix of romance and dark comedy will also surprise audiences this summer.
