An actor from the original Harry Potter movies returns to the franchise in a recast role.
HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series will star a completely new cast, including Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore. Warwick Davis is the only actor returning from the original films, reprising his role as Professor Filius Flitwick. This isn’t the only fresh take on the story, however; Audible has also released new full-cast audiobooks of the series.
Screen Rant is excited to share a special preview! You can now hear Bill Nighy as Professor Horace Slughorn in the full-cast audio version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Fans may remember Nighy previously appearing in the Harry Potter films as Rufus Scrimgeour, while Jim Broadbent played Slughorn in the movies. Check out the clip of Nighy’s performance as Slughorn below.
The new clip, which shows a Potions class and stars Bill Nighy as Slughorn, also features narration from Cush Jumbo, Jaxon Knopf (as Harry), Rhys Mulligan (as Ron), and Nina Barker-Francis (as Hermione). Previously, Hermione was voiced by Stanton in the first three audiobooks, with Frankie Treadway as Harry and Max Lester as Ron. However, Knopf, Mulligan, and Barker-Francis have been the voices of Harry, Ron, and Hermione since Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and they will continue in those roles for the remainder of the series.
The audiobook versions of the Harry Potter series were released over seven months, starting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on November 4, 2025, and finishing with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on May 12, 2026. While Horace Slughorn plays a major role in Half-Blood Prince, he also appears in Deathly Hallows and during the Battle of Hogwarts, so actor Bill Nighy will voice the character in the final audiobook as well.
In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, several characters are voiced by a talented cast, including Hugh Laurie as Dumbledore, Riz Ahmed as Severus Snape, Maximus Evans as Draco Malfoy, Michelle Gomez as Minerva McGonagall, Mark Addy as Rubeus Hagrid, Ruth Wilson as Bellatrix Lestrange, Simon Pegg as Arthur Weasley, Iwan Rheon as Remus Lupin, Ambika Mod as Nymphadora Tonks, and Gemma Whelan as Pomona Sprout.
Once the final audiobook adaptations are out, fans won’t have to wait long for more Harry Potter. HBO has confirmed its new show will premiere on December 25th on HBO Max. The first season will cover the events of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in eight episodes, and each of the following books will get its own season too. However, HBO’s Casey Bloys has explained that the show’s large scope means new seasons won’t be released every year.
While fans eagerly await the upcoming Harry Potter show, they can enjoy performances by Emma Stanton as Hermione in the first three full-cast audiobooks and Bill Nighy as Slughorn in Half-Blood Prince.
Audible’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Princewill release on April 14, 2026.
