As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for the darker and more psychological corners of cinema, I find myself intrigued by the upcoming film “Beasts of Prey.” The combination of Andrea Corsini’s short film pedigree, the stellar cast led by Carolyn Bracken and Caroline Goodall, and the involvement of visual effects powerhouse EDI Effetti Digitali Italiani promises a visually stunning and thought-provoking experience.
Carolyn Bracken, the actor portraying the central blind character in Damian McCarthy’s latest thriller “Oddity,” and seasoned character actress Caroline Goodall (known for “Schindler’s List” and “The Fabelmans”), are poised to appear in Italian filmmaker Andrea Corsini’s upcoming psychological horror movie, titled “Beasts of Prey.
Filming has commenced in Italy’s northern regions, Lombardy and Piedmont, for the English production titled “Beasts of Prey”. This film is being marketed as an intricate and exhilarating tale that delves into the eternal conflict between our rational and primal selves.
Corsini’s debut feature, titled ‘Beasts of Prey,’ builds upon his short film with the same name, which premiered at the 2019 Critics’ Week of the Venice Film Festival. This short film follows a peculiar woman who resides in an abandoned villa on the outskirts of a wild forest.
A devastating incident disrupts the tranquil existence of a wealthy art collector, unleashing within her a raw, primitive instinct. Overwhelmed by grief, she decides to abandon her privileged life and construct a fresh concept of family.
It’s worth noting that “Beasts of Prey,” known as “Ferine” in Italian, is being spearheaded by Francesco Grisi and Giorgia Priolo as lead producers. This project is with EDI Effetti Digitali Italiani, the visual effects company that recently earned an Emmy in the exceptional special visual effects in a single episode category for Steven Zaillian’s show “Ripley.
Grisi stated, ‘Ferine’ will challenge conventional movie making by reinventing it from its visual effects. This film will feature significant digital enhancements, including fully computer-generated creatures.’ He also mentioned that the distinguished cast ensures ‘Beasts of Prey’ has inherent global allure.
Furthermore, the film “Beasts of Prey” is set to benefit from enhanced artistic merit, as it features Pino Donaggio – a renowned composer known for collaborating with Brian De Palma on movies like “Carrie,” “Dressed to Kill,” and “Blow Out” – handling the score. Additionally, Fabrizio La Palombara, who has worked on projects such as “Another End,” will serve as the cinematographer.
Marco Colombo, the CEO of Adler Entertainment (the film’s Italian distributor), described “Beasts of Prey” as a “bold and intimately personal movie marking a significant step forward in Adler’s journey into genre film production.
