In the game Oblivion, picking locks may prove challenging at times, and while repeatedly using the “Auto” pick option and saving then reloading (save-scumming) can be effective, it can also deplete your gold by frequently needing to replace your lock picks. Fortunately, you can sidestep all these inconveniences with an indestructible lockpick – the Skeleton Key. This guide will show you how to initiate the quest for this key and the fastest method to complete it and acquire it!

Head to Nocturnal’s Shrine, located northeast of Leyawaiin, just off the road. 

Upon your arrival, you’ll learn from the shrine that thieves have made off with a sacred artifact – her eye. The deity humbly asks for your help in recovering it. If you prefer a more conventional approach, gather information about the thieves by inquiring among the residents of Leyawiin; or, if you’re up for a more direct route, head straight to the location where the eye currently resides, thereby skipping any unnecessary steps.

At Tidewater Cave, situated southeastwardly by the coastline, lies the elusive Nocturnal’s Eye. Keep in mind that both the vicinity and the cavern itself are inhabited by trolls, so exercise caution during your search.


As a keen explorer, upon stepping into the cave, make a beeline straight ahead, then veer left at the first fork. Follow this path unwaveringly until you hit a T-junction, turn left there. Immediately after that turn, take another immediate left. For a moment, you’ll swim underwater, but trust me, the treasure chest with the eye floating above it will be waiting for you just beyond that brief dip!


After regaining your sight, exit the cave and quickly return to the Nocturnal Sanctum using a fast-travel option. Have another conversation there to receive the indestructible Skeleton Key as your prize.
