It’s been nearly a week since Oblivion Remastered appeared unexpectedly, and what have we discovered? The game remains unchanged – with the exception of enhanced visuals and modifications to the leveling system. We still encounter dead bodies twitching everywhere, and a simple knock can cause everything to scatter. NPCs continue to get stuck, and crucial events may fail to trigger during a quest if actions are taken out of sequence or something (or someone) is interacted with prematurely. It’s all just as gloriously broken as before! Plus, there are now more bugs, which are just as endearing as the original ones.
Bugs are back and they brought friends
Mods for Oblivion Remastered may provide assistance in certain scenarios, but they won’t solve every issue. They can enhance carry weight without requiring console commands, improve game performance, and optimize the overall experience. However, when it comes to newly introduced bugs, we’re currently left to deal with them (for now). Despite some of these bugs being amusing, prolonged exposure to a few could become quite irritating.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve stumbled upon quite a few glitches in the newly released Oblivion Remastered, as per information from the unofficial Elder Scrolls wiki.
- Occasionally you can be stuck in a state where items will be dropped when trying to equip them. This can be resolved by closing and relaunching the game – feels like something I was already dealing with 20 years ago.
- Casting Light spells does not work in first-person view. You must go into third-person view for the light effect to appear – classic Bethesda.
- As storage containers now have opening and closing animations with physics, items placed on top of desks may sometimes fly off when the desk is activated.
- Goblin corpses no longer react when hit in the head with a weapon – Yes, someone actually reported this as a bug and I don’t blame them.
- Tripwire traps can no longer be triggered by striking them with an arrow, but will interact with arrow physics after being triggered – I had to read this a couple of times, and I still don’t get it.
- In certain situations, dart traps can damage you regardless of their distance from the trap. You will continue to take damage until you die – pretty sure that’s an old one.
- Stealth marksman attacks sometimes deal only x1 damage, even when you have the Sneak skill perks to increase this.
- If you go to sleep and level up while the subject of a Chameleon effect, the Chameleon visual effect may become stuck.
- Greywyn’s Armoire is not a safe storage and resets every couple of seconds – Better watch out for this one.
- Instantly dying when picking up a Sigil stone from an Oblivion gate.
- Corpses raised using the Great Power “Risen Flesh” are stuck in a ragdoll state and can’t move – that’s a feature, not a bug.
* In reality, these issues are only the beginning of a larger problem. It’s possible that they may be addressed in the future, but let’s face it, it’s unlikely. And on a more disappointing note, they actually fixed the item duplication glitch without any apparent reason.
