Oblivion Remastered: Enchanting, Explained

In the game The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, Enchanting is one of the strongest magic branches that players can utilize. Items made at the endgame with Enchanting are usually superior to any unique items found through exploration.

It’s unfortunate that the power to charm equipment isn’t immediately accessible and, moreover, its primary method is tied to a series of quests, which means that players unaware of where to find these quests can’t access it.

How to Enchant Using Enchanting Altars in Oblivion Remastered

In the game Oblivion Remastered, there are unique workstations known as Enchanted Altars or Altars of Enchantment. These special benches enable players to infuse items with enchantments using Soul Gems filled with magic. To utilize these Enchanted Altars, players must first join the Mages Guild and advance through the storyline, earning recommendations until they reach the rank of ‘Apprentice.’ This achievement grants access to Enchanted Altars within Guild Halls, as well as other benefits. Once you’ve reached this stage, follow these steps:

1. Join the Mages Guild
2. Progress through the questline and earn recommendations
3. Reach the rank of ‘Apprentice’
4. Access Enchanted Altars in Guild Halls
5. Use Soul Gems filled with magic to enchant items at these altars.

  1. Interact with an Altar of Enchanting to bring up the enchanting menu.
  2. Select the item you want to enchant under ‘Gear.’
  3. Go to the second tab, ‘Soul Gems, ’ and select a filled Soul Gem you want to use. Bigger Soul Gems give more maximum charges.
  4. Go to the last tab, ‘Effects,’ and choose the enchantment you want.
  5. If prompted, customize the Magnitude (the strength of the effect), the Area of Effect (radius), and the Duration of the enchantment.
  6. Enter a name for the item in the text box at the top and select ‘Confirm’.
  7. Hit ‘Enchant’ at the bottom to finalize the enchantment.

Should the mystical artifact serve as a weapon, it allows for two enchantments to be applied. However, note that each enchantment’s power will be slightly diminished compared to when only one is applied.

The lightning symbol at the bottom-left of the magical menu signifies the maximum number of Soul charges it can hold. The candle icon situated centrally indicates the total uses before all charges of the enchantment are depleted, and the coin icon on the bottom-right corner denotes the cost in gold for using the enchantment.

Only Enchanting Altars can add two enchantments to an item; Sigil Stones cannot.

These enchantments consist of spells or spell-effects that the player’s character is familiar with. To apply these magical enchantments, you need an Enchanting Altar and meet the necessary skill prerequisites for casting them in a regular setting.

Higher-level Oblivion Gates drop higher tiers of Sigil Stones.

To ensure you get a particular enchantment, remember to save your game right before collecting the rewards from an Oblivion Gate. If the Sigil Stone you desire appears, that’s fantastic! If not, simply reload the saved game and try again. Since the rewards are generated randomly each time, it’s possible to employ a strategy called “save-scumming”.

How to Use Sigil Stones

  2. Find the Sigil Stone you want to use and click on it.
