Oblivion Remaster Without DRM? GOG Wants It To Happen

On April 22nd, without prior announcement, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was launched, and currently, you can only obtain it through Steam on your PC. Unfortunately, this remaster doesn’t seem to be accessible on the widely used DRM-free platform, GOG.

In a social media message, GOG expressed their congratulations on the release of the game, adding that they would be delighted if this masterpiece could join their platform. This way, gamers can acquire it without any Digital Rights Management (DRM), and own it forever.

GOG has placed Oblivion Remastered on their “Wishlist,” a compilation of games that aren’t currently offered on GOG yet. Users can express their desire for this game to be sold on the platform by voting and sharing stories or comments about why they believe it should. Over 1,300 individuals have already signed a petition in support of this.

GOG expressed that your votes and personal tales are highly significant, and they serve as the most powerful demonstration to the global community that cherished games ought to continue thriving indefinitely.

On the Oblivion Remastered GOG Wishlist page, a frequently upvoted comment comes from a user who expresses that Steam is perceived as too invasive and other game launchers are seen as either bothersome or unpredictable. Another widely supported remark points out GOG’s established partnership with Bethesda to offer 2016’s Doom and 2011’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the GOG platform.

Currently, GOG isn’t offering Oblivion Remastered, but they do have Oblivion’s Game of the Year Edition available for just $5 during their ongoing sale instead.

It’s worth noting that not every newly released game immediately appears on GOG because of their strong anti-Digital Rights Management (DRM) principles. The recently launched Oblivion Remastered is simply the most recent instance demonstrating this.
