It’s true! The long-awaited remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is finally here, and fans can dive into the game right away. Bethesda has officially confirmed the remaster, and it’s available now on Game Pass for Xbox and PC. You can also buy it on those platforms for $50.
The game is developed by Virtuos in partnership with Bethesda.
For quite some time now, there have been whispers of a reboot for Oblivion. These rumors date back to when it was hinted at in the court records from the Microsoft versus FTC lawsuit. It’s not surprising that it has been launched secretly, as reports had previously suggested this would be the approach with this game.
Initially, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion premiered only on Xbox consoles in 2006. Later, it expanded to the PlayStation 3 in 2007, having first been released exclusively on other platforms. This open-world RPG is cherished for its narrative and gameplay mechanics, but also notoriously remembered for its horse armor, which served as an early example of downloadable content (DLC). Bethesda’s head, Todd Howard, once commented on the horse armor, stating “people will buy just about anything.
After the massive success of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 2011, Bethesda has moved on to developing The Elder Scrolls VI. However, as of now, a release date for this upcoming game has not been announced.
