Oblivion Remake Will Shadowdrop “At Any Moment This Month” – Report

There’s growing clarity surrounding the speculated reboot of Bethesda’s 2006 role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Today, Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb, a sister site of TopMob, shared an update during GameBreaking News, hinting that the game could be launched imminently.

It seems that Grubb mentioned his belief that Bethesda might unexpectedly launch the game this month, which indicates they could reveal and distribute the game concurrently.

According to earlier speculations and news pieces, it seems likely that Bethesda could unveil and make the game available around the same time, potentially in April. A previous report had hinted at a possible June release for the game.

Bethesda isn’t new to releasing multiple games on the same day, since their ex-Tango Gameworks team had simultaneously unveiled and launched Hi-Fi Rush on the same date as well.

Regardless of the situation, this news about the possible Oblivion remake surfaces during the festivities marking the 10th anniversary of another beloved Elder Scrolls title, The Elder Scrolls Online. From now until April 22nd, players of ESO can gather different rewards and boosts as part of the celebration.

According to recent reports, Virtuous has been said to have rebuilt what appears to be a remake of Oblivion using Unreal Engine 5. This new version includes numerous upgraded gameplay mechanics. Despite speculation suggesting Microsoft and Bethesda might unveil an Oblivion remake during the Xbox Developer Direct in January, it did not materialize.

The rumor can be traced back to documents from the Microsoft vs. FTC case in 2023 regarding Xbox’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. It was mentioned in these documents as a future, unannounced game by Bethesda for release within their 2022 fiscal year. However, as we all know now, “Oblivion Remaster” was not released during that time frame.

There’s been no news regarding the possible platforms for the alleged Oblivion remake. Despite Bethesda occasionally launching its games on competing platforms, such as the upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages for May, their most prominent recent game, Starfield, remains exclusive to Xbox and PC.

Initially, Oblivion, the popular open-world RPG, exclusively appeared on Xbox consoles when it was first released in 2006. Later, it made its way to PlayStation 3 in 2007. However, before its console debut, it launched on PC. The game is often nostalgically recalled for its compelling storyline and gameplay, as well as for horse armor, a notable early instance of downloadable content (DLC), which became infamous. Todd Howard, head of Bethesda, later commented on the horse armor, stating that “people will buy just about anything.

Although no official version of the game Oblivion is currently set for release, a fan project called Skyblivion is planned for launch in 2025.

After the massive success of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 2011, Bethesda has moved forward with development of The Elder Scrolls VI, although a release date for this upcoming game has not been announced as of now.
