Not All the Jacksons Wanted to Be in Michael

While the film Michael covers the life of Michael Jackson and his early fame with the Jackson 5, it won’t include appearances from all of his family members. Several Jacksons chose not to participate in the biopic, with Janet Jackson being the most prominent example. At the film’s premiere, La Toya Jackson explained that her sister was asked to be involved but respectfully declined, and her wishes should be honored.

The movie also doesn’t include Randy Jackson, who became a member of the Jackson 5 in 1975 after replacing his brother Jermaine, or their oldest sister, Rebbie. Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris, has publicly expressed her distance from the project, stating she chose not to get involved. She explained that the filmmakers were going to create the movie they wanted, and she anticipated that a significant portion of it would appeal to fans who still hold onto idealized memories of her father. She felt it was best to remain uninvolved, knowing that this segment of the fandom would likely enjoy the film.

Several Jackson family members, including La Toya, Jermaine, Jackie, and Marlon, have publicly supported the movie and attended its premieres. This has highlighted a division within the family, with some members backing the film and others opposing it. According to a source who spoke with the New York Post, Paris Jackson is being particularly resistant and the issue has become very personal. The source claims she’s being influenced by Janet and Randy Jackson, which is contributing to her unwillingness to participate. It’s clear this source is aligned with the family members who do support the film.
