Norland and Cataclismo Didn't Repeat Manor Lords' Success, but Managed to Find Sizable Fan Bases Through Devs' Hard Work

As a veteran gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can truly appreciate the efforts of publishers like Hooded Horse who value quality over quantity. It’s refreshing to see them supporting smaller successes like Norland and Cataclismo, games that have proven their worth through positive reviews and solid sales figures.

Hooded Horse, known for publishing Manor Lords and Against the Storm, often stresses that the industry suffers when companies chase major successes at the expense of game developers. Instead, they also acknowledge and appreciate modest victories, like the positive reviews and strong sales of strategy games such as Norland and Cataclismo.

According to posts on social media, more than 185,000 individuals have bought Long Jaunt’s city builder game. After three weeks with 15 updates, about 77% of nearly 4,000 Steam users have given the game a positive review.

Approximately 150,000 units of the Digital Sun Games game have been purchased since July 22nd. As for Cataclismo, it has garnered over 1,700 reviews, with 93% of them being favorable. Unlike Norland, it didn’t get as many updates, but its developers have already rolled out several updates and bug fixes.

Both games are quite popular on Steam, as indicated by their activity levels (from SteamDB). Specifically, at its peak, Cataclismo attracted close to 2,000 players, while Norland managed nearly 2,500 concurrent users.

Indeed, the performance of these games doesn’t approach that of Manor Lords, as even a substantial decrease in its success still surpasses the combined outcomes of both these titles (according to SteamDB). It’s worth noting that Slavic Games saw an impressive surge in sales, with their title being purchased approximately 250,000 times in just June.

Despite this, the success of Grzegorz Styczen’s game is clearly evident. Titles like Norland and Cataclismo, which are currently thriving in Early Access, continue to impress. The publisher appears satisfied with their performance and it seems they are determined to keep supporting these “less mainstream” games rather than focusing on a blockbuster hit.

Representatives from Pocketpair (for Palworld), Slavic Magic, and Bloodbath Studios (of Crestfallen: Medieval Survival) were among those who offered their congratulations on the success achieved by the publishers and developers.
