‘Nobody Wants This’ Stars Adam Brody and Kristen Bell Say Season 2 Starts Shooting in February

As a seasoned movie critic with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that “Nobody Wants This” has truly been a breath of fresh air amidst the sea of intense dramas and action-packed series we’ve seen recently. Adam Brody and Kristen Bell have crafted a delightful romantic comedy that resonates deeply with viewers in these trying times.

Adam Brody and Kristen Bell didn’t foresee that “Nobody Wants This,” their Netflix comedy series depicting an unconventional romance between a newly single rabbi (Brody) and a non-Jewish podcast host specializing in sex (Bell), would explode as a cultural phenomenon.

Brody explains that we’re currently experiencing a critical time filled with significant change, and it appears there are few light-hearted romantic films or TV shows available right now.

For a brief instant, it seems as if we’re the only ones on the field,” Bell notes. “The small screen has been brimming with exceptional, gritty, hardcore programs that ‘Breaking Bad’ sparked – shows full of rough-and-tumble action – and it’s been a while since the public has experienced something charming in the romantic comedy genre.

I had a chance meeting with Brody and Bell at the latest “Nobody Wants This” For Your Consideration event, which took place at Netflix’s Tudum Theater in Hollywood.

You really didn’t think this show would be such a big hit?

Bell: No. We just felt like we were shooting this little show on Vermont in Los Feliz.

Me: Indeed, it’s not yet fully trusted by me. The fear that it might vanish from Netflix still lingers, so I find myself checking its presence occasionally, just to make sure it’s still there. It’s a bit like a reassuring self-check, you know?

Bell: It’s wonderful to see that people enjoyed the show, and that’s really what matters most to me. To be honest, my aim hasn’t always been to create something that deeply impacts people, but rather to bring joy to them.

I binged the first season quickly and I don’t like that we have to wait so long for the next season.

Brody: I’m hoping it won’t be too difficult. We’re filming in February, and if everything goes as planned, we should release it by September of the following year.

How are you going to top this all in Season 2? Do you know how it plays out?

Brody: Kristen probably knows more than I do.

We’ve brought on two fantastic new showrunners, Jenny Connor and Bruce Eric Kaplan, to join our team. This addition has really gotten us all excited! Although we haven’t finalized everything just yet, the writers have been working on it for around a month now. The season outline is roughly in place, and I’m feeling quite optimistic about it.

Adam, what do you want to see happen in Season 2?

Brody: I’m flexible about how it’s presented, but it needs to be intelligent, charming, and amusing – that’s the gist. I want it to be excellent, and it can manifest in various ways. The specific details aren’t crucial as long as they are genuine, thoughtful, and entertaining to experience.

Bell: One aspect I truly admire about Erin Foster, our creator, and the fresh faces this season is their dedication. They seem to say, “We’re delivering what the audience wants.” For the second season, we won’t have Godzilla appear or transform into an alien series. There will be no evil twin characters.

Who has reached out to you about the show who you were surprised to hear from?

Bell: One unexpected surprise was Molly Shannon. I received a heartwarming message from her, and I must say that almost everyone I’ve collaborated with has been kind as well.

Brody: I’ve heard from most people in my phone.

Who is in your phone?

Brody: It’s not as cool as it sounds. My handyman told me he loves the show.

It’s unclear if anyone is monitoring this or if it’s just my imagination, but around seven individuals mentioned that they began watching the series due to their fathers’ suggestions. It appears the algorithm is accurately targeting fathers, primarily men in their late 50s to late 60s. Interestingly, Toto Wolff (the CEO of Mercedes in Formula One) recently told me he enjoys the show and watched it with his kids. This was certainly unexpected.
