Noah Schnapp addresses backlash ahead of Stranger Things Season 5

Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers on *Stranger Things*, is still receiving criticism online for a post he made on Instagram last year. He recently discussed the situation and the upcoming fifth season of the show in a new interview. Please be aware that details of this situation may be upsetting to some.

The popular Netflix series *Stranger Things* will end this year, with the first part of its final season arriving next month. The show has launched the careers of its young actors, including Millie Bobby Brown, who became a star thanks to the series, and Finn Wolfhard, who has gone on to work in films and music.

Being in the public eye from a young age hasn’t been without difficulties for Schnapp, and he’s faced several controversies. In November 2023, he received online criticism after sharing an Instagram Story where he and friends were shown laughing with stickers that read “Zionism is sexy.”

The video was released as fighting between Israel and Gaza intensified, and fans began calling for Noah Schnapp to be removed from the next season of *Stranger Things* as a result. Schnapp then posted on TikTok, saying his views had been misinterpreted.

Noah Schnapp comments on “pros and cons” after online backlash

While visiting the set of Stranger Things Season 5, Time magazine asked Noah Schnapp about the recent online controversy surrounding him and if he’d reflected on his social media behavior.

He explained that he always made a point of connecting with his fans, simply because it felt natural to him. He acknowledged there are both good and bad sides to being so open, and admitted he’s still young and learning. He expects his perspective will change over time, possibly within the next five years.

Finn Wolfhard received criticism for both an Instagram Story he posted and his statements about the ongoing conflict. Before the video, in October 2023, he had already released a detailed message expressing his disapproval of people taking sides.

He stated that people must either support Israel or oppose terrorism, claiming the choice should be clear. He was criticized online for oversimplifying a complex conflict with this statement.

In a TikTok video posted in January 2024, Noah Schnapp responded to criticism, explaining that people had seriously misunderstood his views. He wanted to share his true feelings and clarify his beliefs.

I simply want everyone caught in this conflict to be safe and secure. I believe anyone who cares about others hopes this fighting will stop on both sides.

I strongly oppose the killing of innocent people, and I believe everyone should. I hope that one day, the two groups in that region can live together peacefully.

Noah Schnapp, now 21, no longer has a public TikTok account. It appears to have been either deleted or made private, according to Social Blade. His Instagram is still up, but he’s limited who can comment on his posts.

Despite the collaborative nature of some posts, critical comments still appear. Recently, a video shared by Prada Beauty and Schnapp received many replies supporting the ‘Free Palestine’ movement.

So, I was reading an interview with Noah Schnapp – you know, Will from Stranger Things – and it was pretty cool. He talked about how playing Will actually helped him understand himself better. Right around the time Season 4 came out, he confirmed that Will *is* gay, and then he actually came out as gay himself on TikTok shortly after. It felt really authentic and like the two things were connected, which was awesome to hear.

He admitted he was very afraid to discuss it when he was younger. People constantly questioned him, asking about his and others’ sexual orientation. He was only 12 or 13 at the time and didn’t have answers.

The first part of Stranger Things Season 5 will be available on Netflix on November 26, 2025. The second part will release on December 25th, and the final episodes will premiere on New Year’s Day.

While you wait, you can explore predictions about which Stranger Things characters might not survive the final season, learn about the potential time jump in Season 5, and see what other TV shows are scheduled to premiere in 2025.
