Disney is developing a live-action movie focusing on Gaston, the villain from Beauty and the Beast. According to Deadline, the film will be an adventurous, action-packed story with a new actor taking on the role previously played by Luke Evans in the 2017 live-action version. Evans is currently busy with Rocky Horror on Broadway and won’t be reprising his role as the musclebound character. While a TV series spin-off was considered previously, it didn’t move forward. Dave Callaham, who co-wrote Across the Spider-Verse, is writing the script for this new film. Michelle Rejwan will produce, though a director hasn’t been announced yet.
The original Beauty and the Beast features Gaston, who tries to marry Belle but she falls in love with the Beast. Gaston and his friend LeFou try to kill the Beast, but they fail, and Gaston falls to his death. The upcoming spin-off might show how a young Gaston became a popular hunter and met LeFou. Alternatively, it could be set later in time and simply highlight Gaston’s famously dramatic fall.
