No Marvel Movies For Me, Please, 4-Time Oscar-Nominated Actress Says

As a long-time admirer of Saoirse Ronan’s exceptional talent and versatility, it is both intriguing and inspiring to see her express her aspirations towards venturing into action films, while maintaining a respectful distance from the Marvel universe. Her journey in Hollywood, marked by numerous accolades and roles in smaller projects, seems to have instilled in her a desire for more grandeur, as evidenced by her interest in iconic franchises such as James Bond.

4-time Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan is eager to venture into larger Hollywood action films following her extensive work on smaller productions. However, she expresses no desire to be part of a Marvel production.

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ronan initially spoke about speculations surrounding her potential casting as Yelena in Black Widow. In a video clip available below, she seems to evade the question and doesn’t provide a clear response. Eventually, Florence Pugh landed the role and will reprise it in Thunderbolts, set for release in 2025.

Saoirse Ronan’s immediate response when I directly inquired whether she had been given the role of Yelena in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a classic moment I will remember. (Laughing Emoji)

As for her possible involvement with Marvel, Ronan expressed that she doesn’t foresee herself being a part of it. She holds Marvel in high regard and believes their movies to be exceptional.

While she doesn’t yet have the opportunity, her aspiration lies in securing a role in a major motion picture, such as James Bond. As she put it, “I’d love to take on a Bond film.” She’s inspired by Greta Gerwig’s work on Barbie and expresses her desire to follow suit, saying, “I really want to do more big movies like that.” Naturally, she wouldn’t mind being part of such projects.

Before this, Ronan talked about how a dream role for her would be to be a Bond villain.

Initially, Ronan had the chance to be a part of a significant film series, as she tried out for the character Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films. She described her audition as an “amazing experience,” but unfortunately, due to her age at the time, she didn’t end up getting the role.

Ronan has been nominated for an Academy Award in four films – Atonement, Brooklyn, Lady Bird, and Little Women. Her most recent movie, titled The Outrun, made its debut towards the end of September.
