Streamer Nick ‘nmplol’ Polom has spoken up following the controversy over an AI-created image depicting him and Katchii in a Studio Ghibli style, which received criticism.
In March, ChatGPT 4 was updated with an image generation feature from OpenAI, enabling users to generate images inspired by their preferred animated series.
One widely admired artistic style often traces its roots to the animation studio founded by Hayao Miyazaki, renowned for producing films such as Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, and Princess Mononoke.
Many posts adopting this particular style have overflowed onto social media sites, with nmplol being one of the creators who produced a Ghibli-inspired artwork of their own.
Nick Polom sparks backlash after posting AI-generated photo
On Thursday, March 27th, he expressed uncertainty about what Studio Ghibli is, but he still felt good saying so, as he posted an AI-created image inspired by Studio Ghibli, depicting him affectionately embracing fellow streamer Katchii.
In a flash, the post gained massive popularity across X and ignited criticism from users on Elon Musk’s social media platform.

Another said: “Stop bro, buy an artist. You have the money.”
“Pretty disappointing to see this ngl,” replied a third.
In spite of some criticism, numerous individuals responded positively to the post, expressing their admiration for it, with many finding the picture quite appealing. Notwithstanding, Nick promptly addressed the commenters who were expressing distress.
He stated, “Many of you seem upset with this post’s content and the AI art. However, I couldn’t care less about your tears. Frankly, your reactions are more distressing than the post itself. It’s astonishing; please calm down.

As an enthusiast, I’ve noticed that the surge of AI-generated Studio Ghibli content on social media has sparked diverse responses. While streaming, I recently came across some opinions about these posts, and as a former OTK member, Asmongold was among those sharing his thoughts. Surprisingly, he criticized artists who expressed displeasure over the AI-generated content during his stream.
“I would focus on a career change. Go be a plumber or something like that,” he said.
People unearthed a 2016 video featuring Miyazaki himself, where he expressed his disdain for AI-created animations, referring to them as an “affront to life itself.” He also voiced his deep revulsion towards this technology.
