Nintendo Wants To "Make Waking Up Fun" With New Sound Clock, Alarmo Launching For Retail In 2025

As a long-time Nintendo fan, I can’t help but be absolutely thrilled about their latest innovation – Alarmo! Growing up with Nintendo games has been a significant part of my life, and now they’re not just entertaining me during my waking hours but also helping me to wake up every morning!

Nintendo is quite skilled at surprising us with unexpected releases and announcements, and they recently unveiled something that left everyone in shock. The Japanese gaming giant presented their latest device, not another set of Joy-Cons, but a sound-focused clock called Alarmo, complete with a trailer and an “Ask the Developer” post.

The primary appeal of the Alarmo device, as stated on its product webpage, is to “make mornings enjoyable,” which is clearly demonstrated in the associated video trailer. At this moment, it’s projected that Alarmo will become available at stores worldwide in 2025. However, members of Nintendo Switch Online in the United States and Canada can already reserve their Alarmo units through the My Nintendo Store online.

In simpler terms, what does Alarmo do? Based on its website description, users select a title, scene, and desired wake-up time. The device then handles the rest by providing an engaging and interactive way to start each day with the settings chosen, along with a game-like feature to motivate you to wake up refreshed and ready to go.

As a gamer, I can wave my hands to hush an alarm upon waking, and depending on the settings chosen, I’ll be greeted with tunes or sounds familiar to popular games like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Users have a variety of 35 pre-set scenes to choose from, inspired by iconic Nintendo titles, with more content available for download through Wi-Fi from games such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

To utilize the previously mentioned Alarmo content, users need to connect their Nintendo Account with the device and download it once it’s been made accessible. Unique aspects of Alarmo include a Steady Mode, which gradually amplifies the volume and intensity of alarm sounds as we spend more time in bed (unless the snooze button is pressed).

Regarding taking breaks during the day, the Button Mode option is now included in the device for individuals who, just like us, enjoy starting their mornings by pressing that classic “snooze button.” The Alarmo system will also be equipped with abilities to monitor users’ sleep patterns, much like popular sleep-tracking apps such as Pokémon Sleep. These features are designed to help them.
