Nintendo Switch owner goes viral for $15 bedtime gaming setup

A user who owns a Nintendo Switch gained popularity online by posting pictures of their simple yet functional gaming arrangement for playing games comfortably in bed, all while keeping their head comfortably on the pillow.

They mounted a clear plastic shelf on the wall, using two brackets, positioning it a few inches above their mattress for convenient storage.

Laying the Switch with its screen facing downward on a flat surface enables players to enjoy it comfortably in bed, preventing unnecessary neck strain and avoiding the often experienced discomfort known as “Dead Hand Syndrome,” which is commonly felt among enthusiasts of handheld devices.

In a thrilling post on the Switch subreddit dated July 3rd, I stumbled upon an inventive DIY project shared by another fan. The images showcased their clever creation.

Who needs sleep?

The user mentioned that it costs fifteen dollars and is extremely comfortable, which led to a variety of responses including playful comments about their setup, as well as some advice related to health and safety.

“I’d be worried about hitting my head when I get up for the day or to use the bathroom,” said one.

Additionally, having spent more than a decade specializing in sleep medicine, they were eager to advise against prolonged screen usage while in bed. “I understand if you’re confined to bed due to illness or injury, but I strongly discourage making it a regular practice for extended periods, especially at night.

“I respect the dedication and creativity but this is so bad for your sleep,” another echoed.

Many responses featured pictures of babies captivated by their crib’s mobile, prompting someone to joke about how “we’ve made our way back to where we started.

At this proximity, my primary worry about this arrangement is potential eye strain, particularly since it seems to involve a standard Nintendo Switch system.

It’s unlikely that optical issues will arise when you’re comfortably in bed, but imagining a person playing video games while lying flat evokes a bit of a “Black Mirror” atmosphere for me. I’d prefer to decline this activity, thank you.
