Nintendo is adding two new games to its collection of classic Game Boy Advance titles available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. These games are from companies other than Nintendo itself.
Starting September 25th, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will be able to play two classic games: the side-scrolling adventure Klonoa: Empire of Dreams and the puzzle game Mr. Driller 2, both originally from Namco (now Bandai Namco). These games are special because they’re the first titles from a company other than Nintendo to be added to the Game Boy Advance library available through the service. All 25 previously available GBA games were published by Nintendo themselves.
Klonoa: Empire of Dreams first came out in 2001 and features Namco’s Klonoa on a quest to defeat four monsters. The story begins in a world where dreaming is forbidden. Gameplay involves fighting enemies using Klonoa’s Wind Ring, solving puzzles, and gathering stars. While popular, the Klonoa series hasn’t seen a new main game since 2008 (a Wii remake of the original), though the first two games were remastered and re-released in 2022.
Mr. Driller 2, released by Namco in 2000, is a puzzle game where you drill through colorful blocks to reach a goal while managing your air. This isn’t the first time this game, or Klonoa: Empire of Dreams, has been re-released – both were previously available on the Wii U’s Virtual Console.
Just days after revealing some surprises in their latest presentation, Nintendo announced that all 14 Virtual Boy games will be available on Nintendo Classics starting February 17, 2026. However, you’ll need a separate accessory to play them.
