A Reddit user has become popular online following the revelation that their original Nintendo Switch survived a house fire that destroyed everything else in the house, surprisingly without any protective casing on it.

There’s no doubt that Nintendo items are designed for durability. In fact, a classic Game Boy handheld device is said to have endured the Gulf War and was exhibited at Nintendo New York until 2023.

Two years on, a Reddit user named ‘Whitewolf255’ demonstrated the resilience of Nintendo products by showcasing a photograph of his Nintendo Switch 1, which had been charred in a house fire, yet continued to function.

Last week, I unfortunately lost my house, but luckily, I still have my Nintendo Switch. The photograph’s backdrop clearly depicts the devastation caused by a fire, with charred walls and a layer of ash covering the floor.

As a devoted fan, I must say it’s not just the miraculous survival of their Switch that leaves me awestruck. Intriguingly, this console wasn’t ensconced in a protective case; instead, it was merely seated in the dock during the fire. (Sadly, the dock itself perished in the flames.)

In a subsequent remark, they elaborated on the cause of the house fire; it had initially broken out in their yard, eventually engulfing the entire house.

Since its posting on June 25, their post has garnered more than 260,000 upvotes, sparking optimism among viewers that the Nintendo Switch 2 might share the same fire-resistant qualities.

Indeed, one Reddit user suggested that Nintendo should replace their console, reminiscent of the incident in 2023 when Stanley bought a woman a new car after her Stanley-brand travel mug endured a vehicle fire, and Stanley took responsibility for the mug’s survival.
