Nintendo Switch 2 units sold early are allegedly completely useless

A few Nintendo Switch 2 devices have leaked prematurely before their official release, and it’s claimed that users who got their hands on these early can’t utilize them because they require a compulsory day-one system update.

The successor to Nintendo’s highly successful Switch console is scheduled to be available in retail stores starting from June 5, 2025. This is the confirmed release date for enthusiasts worldwide to acquire their latest gaming treasure.

Some people are finding that Christmas has arrived prematurely, but the news isn’t entirely positive. With numerous copies of the game or device being shipped worldwide, it’s not surprising that a few fortunate individuals have received theirs ahead of schedule before the actual release date for the Switch 2. This is exactly what’s transpired over a week before its official launch.

A limited group of enthusiasts have managed to secure Nintendo’s latest gadget, showcasing it in unboxing clips across various social platforms. Yet, it is said that they are having trouble running a single game on the device because of an upcoming day-one software update.

One method for rephrasing more naturally and easily understood: The Switch 2 model has been released and is currently available. However, it seems to be tied to a Day 1 update and cannot be utilized at this time.

Early Nintendo Switch 2’s are effectively useless

On May 27th, rumors started spreading that a YouTube channel supposedly based in the UAE posted a video showing the unboxing of Switch 2. However, this video was later removed due to apparent reasons.

In a comment about their own video, the user mentioned that they’re waiting for the Nintendo Switch 2 to become operational as it requires an update on June 5th before it can be used.

A previous presumed user concurred with this viewpoint. “I’m not allowed to display images, but I can relay that when attempting to launch a Nintendo Switch 1 game, a message pops up saying: ‘Connect to the internet and update your system if necessary.’

According to what’s being suggested, the Switch 2 will essentially be non-functional for playing games until the system update scheduled for June 5 has been released and installed. In other words, as of now, you won’t be able to play games on the new device before that date.

It turns out that the person I spoke with also owns a Nintendo Switch 2. Unfortunately, I can’t share images, but they mentioned that when they attempt to play games from the original Switch, a message pops up instructing them to connect to the internet and update their system.
