In just its launch period, the new Nintendo Switch model surpassed a 12-year-old sales record previously held by the PlayStation 4, making it the fastest-selling video game console in the United States.
As I, a dedicated fan, eagerly anticipated the unveiling of Nintendo’s upcoming Switch successor, I could feel the excitement building like a storm. Every whisper, every rumor about the mysterious new device sent a thrill coursing through me and millions of other fans worldwide. We were all on the edge of our seats, yearning for any tidbit of news that might hint at what Nintendo had in store for their next major hardware release.
Now, it’s evident that fans have backed up their verbal enthusiasm with actual financial support, breaking records after the initial hype about the release.
The Switch 2 has been reported to have sold over 3.5 million units worldwide during its first four days on sale. However, recent analysis from Circana, a well-respected analytics firm, reveals that an even more impressive figure of 1.6 million units were sold specifically within the U.S., establishing it as the fastest-selling gaming hardware in the region to date.
Nintendo Switch 2 makes history as fastest-selling hardware ever
Based on Circana’s findings, the Nintendo Switch 2 managed to sell approximately 1.6 million units directly to consumers in June alone. This impressive sales figure surpasses the second-swiftest-selling console ever, the PS4, by a significant margin of around 500,000 units. The PS4 had sold 1.1 million units back in November 2013.

As a dedicated gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but be thrilled about the groundbreaking launch we recently witnessed! This monumental event not only set new records but also ignited the highest-ever June sales in gaming history. Remarkably, video game hardware sales skyrocketed to an impressive $978 million USD – that’s a staggering 249% surge compared to June, 2024!
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that Mario Kart World ranked third among the top-selling games last month! But here’s an interesting twist: the figures don’t account for copies sold as part of a bundled package. In other words, if someone like me bought the bundle, my purchase didn’t contribute to its overall ranking. Quite intriguing, isn’t it?
Approximately 8 out of every 10 US Switch 2 owners have purchased Mario Kart World, according to data from Circana’s Executive Director, Mat Piscatella.
As we approach the holiday season in July, the excitement continues to build with the arrival of Donkey Kong Bananza. It remains to be seen if the upcoming Switch 2 will break any more sales records during its inaugural year.
