As a die-hard Nintendo fan, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the prospect of the Switch 2! This upcoming console is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited gaming devices, primarily because it promises to deliver even more of the charm and fun that made the original so beloved. Under the hood, they’re packing in more power, ready to elevate our gaming experiences to new heights!
People might be attracted by the extra features, but what truly draws them is the gaming experience. Given the strong lineup of Nintendo’s exclusive intellectual properties, it’s not surprising that people are eagerly waiting in long lines to get their hands on the console they require to play the latest Mario Kart game.
Despite some challenges brought about by tariffs, there’s still a high expectation for pre-orders to reach new heights.
Based on Bloomberg’s predictions, the release of Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to surpass PlayStation’s launch records, making it the most triumphant console debut in history.
Nintendo Switch 2 launch set to be record-breaking
Due to an overwhelming number of pre-orders, Nintendo has expressed regret that they may struggle to meet the high demand for their product. An astounding 2.2 million pre-order requests have been submitted, with many more expected from people intending to purchase in stores.
It appears that based on posts on social media, queues for pre-ordering Switch 2s are stretching out onto the sidewalk.

Nintendo Japan President Shuntaro Furukawa shared that we received an overwhelming response to our call for applications, with around 2.2 million people applying in Japan alone. This figure surpasses what we anticipated and is significantly greater than the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles available for delivery from the My Nintendo Store on June 5th.
According to Bloomberg’s assessment, the sales forecast suggests the system might sell anywhere from 6 to 8 million units, surpassing the launch sales records of both the PS4 and PS5, making it the most successful console debut in history.

In my own analysis, I too referred to Pelham Smithers Associates – a research firm specializing in Japan’s equity market – for added insights.
Pelham Smithers stated that since Japan makes up about a third of the worldwide installations of Switches, this suggests approximately 6.6 million pre-orders worldwide.
This sale figure surpasses the initial sales of Switch 1 significantly, as reported by Statista, with the number falling below 3 million in its first month on the market. Regardless if it reaches the lower estimate of 6 million or the upper limit at 8 million units sold, it’s certain to set a new record for launches. The biggest uncertainty lies in whether Nintendo can maintain its production rate to meet such high demand.
