Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders cancelled by major US retailers

Many Nintendo enthusiasts have recently found out that their pre-orders for the Switch 2 have been unexpectedly terminated a few days prior to its launch.

In a span of more than eight years, the Switch 2 marks Nintendo’s debut console launch. Contrary to the scarcity seen with the PlayStation 5 launch in 2020, stock for this new console hasn’t been entirely elusive, but it has been challenging for consumers to find and purchase.

Even though I’ve made a point to set strong anti-reselling policies, I’ve noticed that some listings for my hybrid console are popping up on platforms such as eBay, tagged with prices that seem more fitting for a treasure chest than a gaming device.

However, some early buyers who successfully pre-ordered prior to the release date have since received notifications that their orders have unfortunately been terminated.

Pre-orders cancelled

Currently, as of June 1st, the Switch subreddit is flooded with user posts displaying their Switch 2 pre-order cancellations.

The person was left disappointed, stating that customer service informed them about numerous order cancellations until the July resupply. They mentioned receiving a $25 store credit as some consolation. “Better luck to all of you,” they concluded.

Customer expresses frustration with Walmart, saying it’s disappointing that their order was canceled despite pre-ordering as soon as it became available.

Besides Walmart customers, it appears that those who had pre-ordered from Target were also impacted. Over a 10-day span, reports of cancellations surfaced, with new ones still being posted as of June 1. The screenshots shared didn’t offer any specific explanation for the pre-order cancellations.

The problem isn’t limited to just the United States, it extends beyond. On May 29, UK retailer Game had to issue an apology due to numerous cancellations, assuring customers that they are making every effort to restore as many pre-orders as possible.

The anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for June 5 across many significant regions worldwide. Here’s a look at the games already confirmed for this console, along with details about its unique features that you should be aware of.
