Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Disaster: Invites Delayed, No Console Until After Launch?

According to Nintendo‘s recent statement, some invitations for the pre-order process of the Switch 2 might not be delivered until after its official release date on June 5th. Those lucky enough to secure an early invitation could find themselves waiting beyond the launch day to receive their gaming console.

On April 24, 2025, American customers were at last able to reserve the Nintendo Switch 2 for purchase, with major stores such as Walmart, Target, and GameStop offering the pre-orders.

The popular $500 gaming console was snapped up almost immediately at most retailers, however, Nintendo’s pre-order raffle is only distributing invitations as late as May 8 – a full two weeks away.

On April 24th, the Japanese gaming company announced that due to overwhelming demand, some customers might need to purchase the Switch 2 after its release on June 5th. However, those who receive an invitation prior to this date may also find themselves waiting beyond the launch date for their newly-purchased console.

My Nintendo pre-orders may take a while

If you decide to pre-order the Switch 2 directly from Nintendo, you may need to be patient as the initial wave of invitations is scheduled for release on May 8, 2025. Keep in mind that only individuals aged 18 and above who meet the criteria established by the company will receive these invitations.

Instead, Nintendo has announced that due to an unprecedented level of interest in the Switch 2, there’s a possibility that you might not receive your console before its official release on June 5, and you might not get an invitation email until after the launch date.

They expressed gratitude towards those who have previously signified their intention to buy from My Nintendo Store.

“We’re really excited about the interest in the Nintendo Switch 2! Since there’s such a huge demand, we’re putting in extra effort to meet orders as soon as the product is released, but delivery by June 5 isn’t certain. You might receive your invitation email after the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. We’ll let you know your shipping date once you make your purchase.”

As a dedicated Nintendo fan, I’m not alone in experiencing pre-order issues with the upcoming Switch 2. Just yesterday, April 23rd, Nintendo Japan announced that due to an overwhelming response – over 2.2 million people expressing interest – they will need to postpone some initial orders and send out a second round of invitations instead.
