As a seasoned gamer with decades of Nintendo fandom under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and skepticism as the whispers of the Nintendo Switch 2 grow louder. The leaked images and the confirmation from trusted sources like Pyoro have certainly piqued my curiosity. If true, it seems Nintendo is opting for a more conservative approach with the name this time around, which isn’t entirely surprising given the confusion that surrounded the Wii and Wii U.

A known leaker has said the leaked name and logo of the Nintendo Switch 2 is real, in response to supposed photos of the system’s dock and a mock-up of the logo.

It hasn’t been officially announced yet, but there are rumors suggesting that the successor of the Nintendo Switch might be named the Nintendo Switch 2. Given the mixed response and confusion surrounding the names Wii and Wii U, it’s not surprising that Nintendo might opt for a more straightforward name this time, especially if the new system bears a strong resemblance to its predecessor, to avoid any potential confusion.

Various fuzzy images and prototype designs of the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 continue to surface, with a recent post on December 25th featuring the dock. The Centro Leaks Twitter/X account has reported that well-known Nintendo leaker Pyoro has authenticated to them that the logo depicted is genuine, as is the name “Nintendo Switch 2”.

According to the trusted Nintendo leaker Pyoro, although the authenticity of the images hasn’t been fully verified, the design shown in the logo is indeed the genuine logo for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo may be using a basic design for the Switch 2 logo

The repeatedly leaked images of what appears to be the Nintendo Switch 2 logo suggest a straightforward modification: an addition of a number beside the original logo. This simplicity has sparked skepticism among some, who argue that adding a “2” could easily be done by anyone without the design actually being authentic.

From a gamer’s perspective, I haven’t come across any alternative ideas or vocal members of the gaming community arguing against the idea of Nintendo’s next console being called ‘Super Switch’ or ‘Switch 64’. If that were the case, I believe you’d hear a lot more buzz about it. As things currently stand, the leaks seem to suggest it will be called the Nintendo Switch 2 instead.

It’s typical for Nintendo to introduce innovative concepts when launching new systems, making a direct leap to Nintendo Switch 2 might appear uncharacteristic. However, the original Nintendo Switch was a massive success in sales, so there’s no compelling reason to deviate from this winning formula and potentially alienate the audience with an unpopular design.

As we approach the end of 2024, Nintendo hasn’t given any details about its upcoming gaming system, leaving us guessing when we might finally know more about this new console. Since Nintendo didn’t release it during the 2024 holiday season, there’s no immediate need to launch the successor to the Switch, but at some stage, an announcement is necessary.

If the leaks continue, then it might be fans who unveil the Nintendo Switch 2 before Nintendo does.
