Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Week Restocks – Here’s What We Know So Far

As a gamer eagerly awaiting the Nintendo Switch 2, I can confirm that launch week has finally arrived! If you’re among the lucky ones who preordered the Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle or standalone console from a major retailer, you’ve likely already got your playtime scheduled. However, for those of us who missed out on the preorder, there’s still hope! The Switch 2 is set to hit shelves on or around June 5, so keep an eye out and grab it as soon as it drops!

Will Switch 2 preorders open again?

Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 began selling out quickly from April 24, when they became available at major retailers. The Nintendo Store started invite-only preorders on May 8, although you can still express your interest; however, the waiting period is uncertain. So far, we’ve noticed restocks of the Switch 2 preorders exclusively at Walmart, with multiple occurrences, such as over the weekend after preorders began and this past Friday.

If preorders reopen, Walmart appears to be the frontrunner. The retailer has used some intriguing language on its Switch 2 store page. Previously, Walmart promised to deliver Switch 2 preorders by 9 AM local time on the launch day. This promise still holds true – as long as you place your preorder by 8 AM ET on June 4. Considering this, it seems plausible that Walmart might open preorders again after the guarantee for launch-day delivery expires.

Regardless of the circumstances, it is known that the Switch 2 will be accessible from selected retailers, both physically in their stores and online, beginning on June 5. Let’s explore the Nintendo Switch 2 launch strategies at retailers who will stock the console from June 5 onwards.

Launch event in stores?

It appears that Walmart won’t be hosting a midnight release for the Nintendo Switch 2. Instead, it would be wise to reach out to local stores to learn about their specific plans and policies regarding launch day. Since Walmart no longer operates 24-hour stores, the earliest you might find one open is at 6 AM. However, considering the anticipation for the new console, lines are likely to start forming well before that.

Currently, it’s unclear if Walmart has enough Switch 2 stocks due to reports of preorders getting canceled recently. Some customers claim that their orders were processed despite exceeding the allotted number of units, allegedly due to a system error.

It’s quite unusual that Walmart ran out of their own branded accessories several weeks ago, while stores like Target, Best Buy, and GameStop continue to have a good supply. We speculate that Walmart might be conserving some accessory inventory for the upcoming product launch.

Online restock:

Although Walmart hasn’t officially announced console restocks on June 5, the listings for the Mario Kart World Bundle and standalone console suggest a similar pattern to how this retailer handles highly anticipated product launches. Notably, both pages display “Coming soon! Release date: 06/05/2025” in a blue box, which has been used previously for sales events like Black Friday and Walmart+ deals. Given the historical significance of this text box, it’s unexpected that Walmart wouldn’t offer online purchase options for these consoles on their launch day.

On June 5th, from 8 AM to 4 PM, Target is organizing Switch 2 launch events at stores nationwide. These events offer the opportunity to purchase the Switch 2, along with exciting prizes and giveaways that promise a lot of fun. If you reside in the Orlando, Florida region, the Millenia Target store will host the biggest event, featuring games, contests, Nintendo merchandise, and more giveaways. Additionally, Target’s mascot Bullseye might make an appearance at this event, though it remains uncertain if it will be a live dog or an employee in a dog costume.

Online restock on June 6:

I’m thrilled to hear that my favorite store, Target, is restocking the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 and the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle on Friday, June 6! You can collect your pre-ordered game at 9 PM Pacific Time (June 4) / 12 AM Eastern Time (June 5). Some stores will also be providing a free Red Bull can to each customer as a quirky promotion. Interestingly, GameStop is linking this Red Bull giveaway exclusively to its Pro membership, a strategy usually employed for highly anticipated products.

Online restock:

There seems to be some uncertainty about whether GameStop will make the Switch 2 available for online purchase again, but it’s not impossible that initial restocks might exclusively benefit Pro members.

On June 5, the exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle will be accessible at Sam’s Club – a warehouse club owned by Walmart. However, this offer is limited to Sam’s Club members only. Take a closer look at our comprehensive guide showcasing top-tier Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, offering detailed insights into each item mentioned previously.

Every Nintendo Switch 2 Game with Boxed Edition

The following is a list of Nintendo Switch 2 games that currently have physical editions for sale. It’s important to note that not all these physical games are entirely physical. When you buy a first-party game from Nintendo, the full game is stored on the cartridge itself. However, with most third-party releases, you receive a Game-Key Card, which appears identical but requires you to download some portion of the game file from the eShop.

In contrast to many games following the Game-Key Card pattern, there are some exceptions worth mentioning. For instance, Cyberpunk 2077 for the Switch 2 offers both the main game and Phantom Liberty expansion on a single 64GB card. Similarly, all future titles from Marvellous – Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion – will be fully available on the Switch 2 game card. However, the physical edition of Split Fiction only includes a code within the box.
