Back in the year when Nintendo unveiled Switch 2, one of the exciting features they showcased was GameChat – their video and voice chat platform. For the very first time, Nintendo gamers now have access to a tool that provides real-time captions and speech-to-text functionalities. But here’s the catch: it seems this feature might be too advanced for some, as it can apparently translate offensive language as well.
David Howe, the owner, verified that the new model, Switch 2, has a feature that converts offensive language spoken aloud into written text. This information was shared by Eurogamer.

It’s unexpected that the problem wasn’t resolved before the launch, especially considering Nintendo’s well-known reputation for being family-friendly. Therefore, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if a future update restricts or removes the feature of the potential Switch 2 allowing it to transcribe words.
Nintendo has openly stated that they can store, keep track of, and save audio and video conversations made via the Switch 2 platform. Later, the company explained that they will only examine these recordings if the chats are flagged for breaking community rules. Additionally, Nintendo has revealed several precautions to safeguard children from potential predators on GameChat. For instance, users under 16 years old need parental or guardian consent to use GameChat, and a valid phone number is necessary for all users during registration.
The Nintendo Switch application has received a recent upgrade, introducing GameChat and some of the anticipated features for the Switch 2. Now, users can extend invitations to friends within GameChat, scrutinize each other’s gaming records, and establish new connections using friend codes or QR codes. Furthermore, it enables players to peruse the Switch 2 games that appear in their gaming history.
GameChat is free for now, but it will become a paid feature on April 1, 2026.
