The Switch 2 Joy-Con charging grip and Pro Controller have new GL and GR buttons located at the bottom of their handles, which can be reprogrammed by players for specific actions within each game, according to Nintendo’s recent announcement.
In a summary shared via the Nintendo Today app, Nintendo clarified that the new buttons are customizable by players. Essentially, they can perform the functions of any other button on the controller. Additionally, these customizations can be tailored for each game, giving you the freedom to configure game-specific controller layouts.
From the comfort of a game, I can customize my control layout directly through the quick settings menu, which is easily accessible by holding down the Home button. These personalized settings are magically saved for me, ensuring they remain consistent throughout my gaming adventures.
On the latest Joy-Con 2 charging grip and the Pro Controller, you’ll find the GL/GR buttons, but keep in mind that these accessories aren’t included with the Switch 2 console – they must be purchased separately. The charging grip retails for around $40, while the Pro Controller goes for approximately $84.
Meanwhile, the Switch 2 is scheduled for release on June 5; however, pre-orders in the United States remain scarce.
