Nintendo Switch 2 Adds Another GameCube Classic On July 3

Next week, Nintendo is adding another classic game, Super Mario Strikers, to the streamlined GameCube collection for the Switch 2. This popular arcade soccer game will be available starting July 3.

First introduced in 2005, Super Mario Strikers is a high-speed soccer game showcasing a variety of beloved Mario characters. Similar to other sports games from the Mario series,

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but share my excitement about the evolution of Super Mario Strikers! This iconic game has spawned not one, but two sequels that have kept me glued to my screens over the years. Firstly, Mario Strikers Charged roared onto the Wii scene in 2007, and then more recently, Mario Strikers: Battle League stormed onto the Switch back in 2022, making every moment spent gaming a thrilling adventure!

The incorporation of Super Mario Strikers now brings the collection of GameCube titles on Switch Online up to four games at present. Nintendo has hinted that additional classics such as Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, and Pokemon Colosseum will be added to the service in the time to come.

Among the benefits unique to the Nintendo Switch 2, the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack plan offers access to the GameCube library. Furthermore, subscribers can download upgrade packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on the Switch 2 at no extra cost, although it’s not immediately apparent how this is done.

The standard Nintendo Switch Online subscription lasts for one year at a cost of $20, whereas the Expansion Pack plan is priced at $50 per annum. Additionally, Nintendo provides an annual family plan that supports up to eight Nintendo Accounts across various devices, and this costs $80.

One advantage of the Nintendo Switch Online service is the ability to use GameChat on the Nintendo Switch 2, where users can chat and screen share with friends. This feature is available for all Nintendo Switch 2 owners until March 31, 2026 during an open-access trial period. Afterward, you’ll need a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online to continue using it.
