During its recent financial report, Nintendo announced it’s considering using its cash to invest in different areas of its business, and that includes potentially acquiring game development studios.
Nintendo announced plans to invest in improving how it creates games, and that could involve buying other companies to bring their talent in-house. While Nintendo rarely makes acquisitions, they’re open to the possibility if the right opportunity arises.
Nintendo hasn’t announced any companies it’s planning to buy. Over the last decade, they’ve acquired several studios, including Shiver, Dynamo Pictures, SRD, and Next Level Games.
In addition to acquiring other companies, Nintendo plans to invest in its own growth by expanding its headquarters in Japan. The company purchased land in Kyoto for $32 million in 2022 and is building a new office, expected to be completed by December 2027.
I’m so excited to hear Nintendo is doubling down on movies! They’ve announced they’re investing more in projects that fit with their games, and that means more films are coming. We’re getting a Super Mario Galaxy movie in 2026, and then a live-action Zelda movie in 2027 – and they’ve hinted at even more after that! As a huge fan, I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
Nintendo recently shared that the Switch 2 has quickly become their best-selling console ever, reaching over 10 million units in just four months. The older Switch model is also continuing to sell well.
