Nintendo has projected the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles they anticipate selling during their 2026 fiscal year. This period spans the first ten months following the console’s release on June 5. Based on their financial results for the year ending March 31, they are estimating that they will sell approximately 15 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and 45 million games.
The projected sales of Switch 2 are expected to be similar to those of the original Switch console, which was launched in March 2017 and achieved global sales of approximately 17.79 million units within its first year. It is important to mention that Nintendo anticipates reaching their sales target for the Switch 2 in just 10 months. Other factors should also be taken into account, such as the higher base price of $450 for the Switch 2 and the influence of US President Donald Trump’s tariff rates on its sales. In Japan, the demand for the Switch 2 has been overwhelming, with preorders surpassing Nintendo’s initial expectations.
In a recent announcement from their fiscal year 2025 report, Nintendo disclosed a decrease in both net sales and profits. However, they are anticipating a significant increase of 63% in net sales for the upcoming financial year ending March 31, 2026. As of March 31, 2025, the number of Switch consoles sold has reached 152.12 million units. Additionally, during this fiscal year, approximately 155 million Switch games were sold, marking a 22% decrease compared to the previous year’s sales of 200 million units.
During the fiscal year, Super Mario Party Jamboree was Nintendo’s top-selling in-house game, shifting a whopping 7.48 million units. Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe maintained its popularity with an additional 6.23 million units sold. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom achieved sales of 4 million, while Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Mario & Luigi Brothership notched up 1 million and 1.6 million sales respectively.
Ahead of the Switch 2 launch, Nintendo is also worth more than $100 billion based on share prices.
