As a seasoned gamer who’s been navigating digital landscapes since the days of Super NES, I must say, Nintendo’s latest financial reports are always a sight for sore eyes. The recent Q1 sales updates for Nintendo RPGs, particularly the Switch release of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, have sent a wave of nostalgia coursing through my veins.


Nintendo recently published their quarterly financial report [PDF] for the first quarter of the 2025 fiscal year, providing us with additional details about the sales performance of their Role-Playing Games (RPGs).

Nintendo Q1FY2025 Results: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door sells 1.76 million units

On this particular site dedicated to a specific genre, we primarily discuss the launch of “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door” for Nintendo Switch. According to Nintendo, the remake has sold approximately 1.76 million copies within the last quarter (up until June 30). Interestingly, Nintendo shares that the game was bought by 1.3 million consumers during its first six weeks on sale. While it’s not typically part of our content, another notable release from Nintendo in this quarter was “Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD,” which sold around 1.19 million units.

  • Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield have sold 26.35 million units since launch [up from 26.27 last quarter]
  • Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet have sold 25.29 million units since launch [up from 24.92 last quarter]

Regarding upcoming Role Playing Game (RPG) releases, by the close of Q2, you can expect “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” to hit the shelves. In Q3, there’s “Mario & Luigi: Brothership” on its way.
