Nintendo issues Switch 2 battery fix but it’s not the only problem

Launched on June 5th, the new Nintendo Switch 2 has seen tremendous success from day one, yet, similar to any novel hardware release, it’s encountered a few initial challenges.

Hey there, fellow gamers! I’ve been diving into this new hybrid console, and it seems like quite a few of us early adopters are encountering some technical hiccups. A lot of these issues seem to be connected to the console’s lithium-ion battery in one way or another, and they range from minor annoyances to more significant problems.

The issue concerning the console’s battery charge indicator or percentage display sometimes showing inaccurate information has now been specifically dealt with.

How to fix battery charge indicator or percentage display on Switch 2

Nintendo has provided a detailed procedure on how to resolve an issue. Important to know is that you’ll likely have to go through this process multiple times, as completing it once may not solve the problem right away. Here’s the suggested sequence of steps: [Procedure details]

  1. Ensure the console has the latest system update.
  2. Set all three Auto-Sleep mode settings to Never.
    • How to set Auto-Sleep mode settings to Never
      1. From the HOME Menu select System Settings.
      2. Scroll down the options on the left and select Sleep Mode.
      3. Set “Auto-Sleep (Playing on System Screen)”, “Auto-Sleep (Connected to TV)”, and “Auto-Sleep (Playing Media Content)” to Never.
  3. Connect the AC adapter directly to the console.
  4. Allow the console to charge until the battery is 100% fully charged, or until the console has been charging for at least three hours.
  5. Leave the console alone and connected to the AC adapter for an additional hour.
  6. When an hour has passed, disconnect the AC adapter from the console and allow the console to display the HOME Menu for approximately three to four hours.
    • The remaining battery life must be depleted as much as possible.
  7. Once the battery charge is almost depleted, power off the console and leave it alone for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Repeat steps 3 through 6 several times.
    • The battery charge indicator will improve gradually by repeating this process several times.

Back bulge

Since June 5, I’ve been noticing some distorted images of the potential new Nintendo Switch, supposedly referred to as Switch 2, popping up online.

The lithium-ion battery situated on the console’s right side leaves room for uncertainty as to whether the raised plastic is due to battery bloating or a production flaw. A user on the Nintendo Switch forum reported encountering the same problem, mentioning that they spotted the issue right away when opening their new device.

Today I received my freshly delivered Switch 2, but upon inspection, I found that the rear part seemed to be slightly protruding,” they mentioned further explaining, “I’ve contacted Nintendo, who acknowledged it appears to be a swollen battery and have opened an investigation regarding this issue.

They suggested that I should switch it off, place it back in its original packaging, and send it back to them immediately, as leaving it on might pose a potential fire hazard if ignored.

At the moment, Nintendo’s help page does not provide any direct advice concerning the issue of a Nintendo console’s battery compartment bulging, or how to handle a situation where a user suspects their device might have a defective battery.
