Nintendo Is Trying Something New To Fight Switch 2 Scalpers

In the earlier part of this year, Nintendo announced one method they plan to combat Scalpers of the Switch 2 is by manufacturing sufficient consoles to match the demand. While this objective is commendable, there will almost always be individuals ready to pay excessive prices for a Switch 2 from scalpers. Now, Nintendo has revealed strategies they will implement to make it more difficult for scalpers to interact with potential customers.

Nintendo has formed alliances with several prominent Japanese second-hand marketplaces, including Mercari, Yahoo Auctions, Yahoo Flea Market, and Rakuten Rakuma. The aim of these partnerships is to restrict the distribution of the upcoming Switch 2 console among resellers and unscrupulous traders who hoard items for profit. Notably, Yahoo Auctions has temporarily banned any listings related to the Switch 2.

As a dedicated gamer, I team up with Nintendo and their authorized market vendors to combat any Switch 2 listings that break the site’s guidelines. We make sure to penalize sellers who disregard these rules and set the stage for a cooperative system where we can exchange information effectively, creating a fair gaming marketplace experience for all of us gamers!

These steps aim to discourage scalpers from publishing false listings or taking pre-orders for the hypothetical Switch 2. However, it’s important to note that once players acquire their own Switch 2 units, Nintendo’s collaboration with flea market sites won’t stop fans from reselling these consoles at any price they desire.

In simple terms, it’s quite similar to how things operate in the U.S. Fans have already formed groups to flag Switch 2 listings on eBay that break the site’s rules about preorders. When resellers finally obtain consoles for sale, there’s no barrier preventing them from selling on the secondary market.

Switch 2 will be released on June 5.
