Nintendo Is Changing The Switch Price For Millions Of People Soon

It’s been indicated by Nintendo that a price hike may be in store for many users who own the original Nintendo Switch console. In Canada, the company has announced plans to adjust pricing across the entire Nintendo Switch lineup, which includes the Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED models.

It’s possible that both physical and digital versions of Switch games, related accessories, Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions, and Amiibo toys might increase in price for Canadian consumers too.

According to Nintendo’s announcement, there’s no confirmation yet whether pricing will rise or fall – they only mentioned a potential “price adjustment” due to market circumstances. However, some speculate this could mean a price hike based on the wording, as changes are being made in response to current market conditions. TopMob has reached out to Nintendo for further clarification on the matter.

No matter what happens, the pricing adjustments will not affect the Switch 2 console, its games, or associated accessories. Nintendo of Canada has not disclosed the details of these changes yet, but they plan to reveal this information on their official Canadian website by August 1st.

Lately, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that he was halting trade negotiations with Canada due to their suggested digital services tax. As of now, these discussions are not moving ahead anymore, given that Canada has reconsidered its initial plan.

At present, the Nintendo Switch retails for CAN$400, while the Nintendo Switch OLED is priced at CAN$450 and the Nintendo Switch Lite goes for CAN$260. In contrast, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is available for CAN$630 or CAN$700 if bundled with Mario Kart World.

Anticipations ran high that the price of the Switch 2 might increase in the U.S., following Nintendo’s unveiling of its pricing on April 2 – the same day Trump revealed his “Liberation” tariff plan. Contrary to expectations, Nintendo didn’t boost the console’s cost in the U.S., where it retails for $450 or $500 with Mario Kart World included. However, they did hike up the prices of some accessories instead.

On June 5, the official launch of Switch 2 marked a historic milestone as it swiftly emerged as the fastest-selling video game console ever produced by any company.
