Nintendo-exclusive Super Robot Wars games’ developer company A,I Co., Ltd. has gone bankrupt

The well-recognized Japanese game development company A,I Co., Ltd., primarily distinguished for its work on exclusive Super Robot Wars series for Nintendo consoles, has unfortunately filed for bankruptcy. This filing was initially noticed on March 10th by the Japanese Bankruptcy Information Accumulation Center. The same document specified that all claims related to this bankruptcy must be submitted by April 14th. A subsequent hearing is scheduled for June 17th at 1:15 PM JST.

In July of 1990, I was initially founded. One of the earliest games we tackled was “Bonk 3: Bonk’s Big Adventure” for PC Engine in 1993. Over time, we gained recognition primarily for creating games for Super Famicom (SNES) and subsequent Nintendo systems like Hudson’s “Bomberman B-Daman” and Atlus’ “Power Instinct“. We also contributed to the development of mini-games for “Mario Party 2“, “Mario Party 3“, and “Mario Party Advance“.

Initially recognized for creating the Super Robot Wars series that debuted only on Nintendo platforms, this collaboration began with Super Robot Wars 64 on the Nintendo 64 in 1999. However, it’s worth noting that not all games they developed were exclusive to Nintendo. For instance, they also worked on Super Robot Wars XO, which is the Xbox 360 version of Super Robot Wars GC for GameCube. Moreover, they were part of the development team for the remake of the original Super Robot Wars on PS3 and Vita. Furthermore, they contributed to the development of Full Metal Panic! Fight! Who Dares Wins, a strategy RPG released in 2018, which marked their final project as well.

In 2015, I was involved in the final installment of the SRW series titled “Super Robot Wars BX” for Nintendo 3DS. Interestingly, this was the last console game that was only released in Japan, as Bandai Namco started to localize these games internationally starting from 2016 with “Super Robot Wars OG: The Moon Dwellers” and continuing with “Super Robot Wars V” in 2017.
